Aslong as it features a simular event based system as RPG Maker has I will be happy. From the looks of the features movement is pixel based and the move speed is dynamicly adaptable, nice. Even full preprogrammed systems for projectiles and how they will act when "fired".

Amazing a trail version! Unfortunately it is fully in japanese Sad
But we can get a good lay of the land, so to speak. It looks like it is stacked up to the top with features and options. From what I can tell this thing really could work for our type of game making!

Oh yeah, Action Game Maker rules!

Alright, sorry for necroposting but I think all of the other topics are also old so I'll just have to bring this one to life.

I have just played W.I.D. and it was a great experience... all of the cutscenes were well made and the story itself was excellent. Only thing that did bother me like how other people "might" comment about it is the lag and the bugs in the game. I am actually sad to hear that Colt himself said that "it was a waste".

I have played around with IGM for a bit (Indie Game Maker but Action Game Maker before) and all I can say is that it's quite confusing. And seeing how not many tutorials and resources and games have been developed with the software, many have been saying that IGM was somehow a "rushed" product of enterbrain and which is why its not so popular. And somehow many of my friends also didn't like it that much either but sticked to RPG Maker.

I'm not saying that I should discourage you to use IGM. But think of the flaws of RPG Maker XP that had affected the gameplay of W.I.D. I mean you can still take the risk of using IGM and maybe produce a great gameplay or still get the same but improved results like that of W.I.D. XP.

So here I can also suggest using other programs like Game Maker. Most people use this program for metal slug like games or even castlevania console games. Or maybe ALL game genres in general...

We can take a look at this for example (I'm 99% sure you've seen this too Cheesy):
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qux19iraLu8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qux19iraLu8</a>

Well also, the disadvantage when using GM would be script errors as well Sad. So unless you're a really experienced coder, I REALLY suggest W.I.D. for Game Maker. The results would be the best and smoothest gameplay that you'll ever achieve (At least I hope so...).

ALSO,

I've checked your deviant art profile and have downloaded every art and drawing you got there:D. The first comic strip you made for WID was great! Cheesy

This isn't considered necroposting, not if you have something significant to say. And you sure do.

Let me thank you for playing WID and I am gald to hear you enjoyed it. Let me first say that, my comment on considering WID a waste, is not the whole story. What I mean to say by it is that I had expected it to be better, I envisioned it to be better then I eventually created. Whenever I play the game myself I do think it has various fun parts in it. I love to play trough some of the bossfights and look at the cutscenes. The thing I really consider a waste, was my effort and trust in RPG Maker XP. It took me two years to develop the game and not until the very end did RPG Maker XP present the errors and bugs.

IndieGameMaker isn't my choice for a remake of WID. No, something like GameMaker would be a very viable choice. I do have knowledge of C++ and Java, which is the basis of the GameMakerLanguage (GML) used in GameMaker. Since I never gave this maker an honest go I think I should.

I have also been thinking of (re)making W.I.D. into a Flash made movie.

Also thanks for checking out the comic, it is pretty out-of-date now. As my drawing skills have greatly improved since completing that comc. And I do have some pretty big plans for a complete W.I.D. comic series in the form of a webcomic.

it is very hard to implement a real time platformer shooter in rm2k3 and rpg maker xp and vx (even with their scripts) since it's an engine for making rpg games and I actually commend those people who have made shooting games using these makers because its hard.

Game Maker has limitless possibilities... sadly I don't know how to script in GML... ALSO you can check out other games made in other makers as well such as Multi Media Fusion 2.

see this for example (it's quite kick ass I have to say):
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJW4lFC0CxI" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJW4lFC0CxI</a>

ALSO I am 25% sure you're also going to remake the art of the in game cutscenes?

The biggest advantage of RPG Maker is that the basics are already there. You have a system that handles maps/pla area including collision detection and overlapping. There are programmable objects/events that can be added in the game and made to do what you want them to do fairly easily.

I've said this before, making games is a hobby for me. And making games with RPG Maker is fun to do. As soon as I start coding with C++ and Java, it starts to feel like school and work. But this time arround it is no excuse, the storyline as told in WID and all the graphics and sfx deserve a decent media to represent it to the world. I'll give GameMaker a serious go and teach myself how to use GML. But...! (big but)

Keep in mind, I have allot to do each day. Work for 8-11 hours, Train for atleast 3 hours, eat/hygiene about 1 hours, relax 1 hours and then I might have and hour or so before I really need to go to sleep.

While I do have many projects I will finish, real life comes first.

ALSO I am 25% sure you're also going to remake the art of the in game cutscenes?
You are correct, I would redo the cutscenes. Using my new skills in drawing it would look allot better. The Final chapter pictures will remain the same though, those kick ass.

yah too bad Sad. I actually have a lot of time to work on my projects... I was forcedly stopped on schooling this semester because I was a shiftee from my computer science course and shifted to engineering. And since I can't get subjects from this semester (due to the fact that all my minors are credited and no other subjects to enroll on.) I have a 5 month vacation (wow). So if any of you are wondering why I always am online, this is the reason.

If only you and blackmage went back to the days when you were still not worrying about money and stuff and still highschoolers, it would've been real fun and you get ALL of your projects done. I mean it's really a burden when you have an unfinished project. Especially to ALL of the fans who are waiting for the games >.<
